


Information About the York, Chester and Lancaster County Areas
York, Lancaster and Chester counties are located in north central South Carolina, just south of Charlotte, North Carolina, commonly called the Southern Piedmont area. The Charlotte area is one of the fastest growing metro areas in this region of the Southeast. Our area offers a neighborly atmosphere with access to big-city amenities--without the big-city hassles. Our area is easily accessible. Interstate 77, which runs through the eastern half of York and Chester Counties, provides a major thoroughfare between Charlotte, NC and Columbia, SC. Interstate 85, which skirts the western boundary of York County and intersects with I-77, provides easy access to the Greenville-Spartanburg, SC area, Atlanta, GA, and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC Research Triangle area. Highway 521 provides easy four lane access from Charlotte, south through Lancaster county Sun, sand and surf--miles of clean South Carolina beaches are only three hours away. The Blue Ridge Mountains and seasonal snow skiing are only two hours away.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport, with more than 500 flights daily, including direct flights to London, Frankfurt, Munich, the Caribbean and other international destinations, is only a 30-minute drive away. The Rock Hill-York County Airport/Bryant Field offers a fixed base operation and hangars, charter services and aircraft rental. Moderate climate leads to an abundance of year round recreational, sporting and cultural activities. Tennis and golf never go out of season. There are numerous tennis
courts and golf courses in the area from which to choose.

York County schools are viewed as leaders of excellence in the state. There are four school districts, with low student-teacher ratios. Approximately 55 percent of York County's public school teachers hold master's degrees or higher. There are seven private schools in the area. Higher education is complete with Winthrop University, York Technical College, and Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill. Other universities and colleges are available in neighboring areas.
