The real estate community experienced both a significant legislative victory and an unexpected loss over the weekend.
The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was officially signed into law, representing one of the most significant federal housing packages in recent years. While no single piece of legislation will solve our nation's housing affordability and inventory challenges, the Act includes measures intended to encourage housing production, reduce barriers to development, and support long-term housing solutions.

At the same time, South Carolina and the nation mourn the passing of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who died unexpectedly on July 11 at the age of 71. Senator Graham served South Carolina in the U.S. Senate for more than two decades and played an influential role on a wide range of national policy issues, including matters affecting housing, infrastructure, and economic development.
As our state reflects on Senator Graham's legacy, his passing also marks the beginning of a new chapter in South Carolina's federal representation. Leadership changes in Washington often influence the direction of legislative priorities and advocacy efforts, making it especially important for REALTORS® to remain engaged in the public policy process.
Governor Henry McMaster is expected to announce an interim appointment to fill the Senate vacancy in the coming days, marking the beginning of a new chapter in South Carolina's representation in Washington.
Regardless of who represents South Carolina in Washington, PRAR will continue advocating for policies that increase housing opportunities, protect private property rights, and strengthen the real estate industry throughout York, Lancaster, and Chester Counties. We remain committed to keeping members informed and engaged as federal and state policy continues to evolve.
